Gerson’s sermon on the passion of Christ. Gerson
(1363-1429), a renowned theologian named «Doctor
Christianissimus», was chancellor of the University of
Paris. Very neat copy, text in elegant gothic typography
on two columns with sections, rubricated throughout
(except parts III and IV). Numerous decorated or
historiated ornemental initials, heightened in color in

GHFRUDWHG IUDPHV D SRUWLFR ZLWK KXPDQ ¿JXUHV DQG
two cherubs on a rope (parts I and IV), Renaissance
borders with two portraits in medallion (II and Index)
and the four Evangelists with the Church fathers, St
Paul and St Pieter (III and Sermon). Engraved by Urs
Graf, four of them present his monogram (parts I, II, IV
and Index). Also illustrated with 3 large woodcuts on
the back of the title pages of part I, of the Index and
of the Sermon, representing a pilgrim with a blazon

Réédition de cet ouvrage dû au «Doctor irrefragabilis» (Hales 1180-1245 Paris), théologien
franciscain et fondateur de la plus ancienne école de l’ordre. Premier utilisateur de la
philosophie aristotélicienne selon ses dires, il traite des doctrines concernant Dieu et ses
attributs, la Création et le péché, la rédemption et la réparation en se référant à la Bible
mais aussi aux poètes grecs, latins et arabes ainsi qu’aux philosophes et théologiens
récents. Important index par Jean Balainius Andrius. Texte sur deux colonnes.
