In-8° : [48]-748-[43] pp. (handwritten provenance on title-page, silghtly browned, handwritten notes and
underlinings, modern handwritten numerotation on 1 p. of the contents, rare foxing, some marginal dampstains,
rare marginal tears or perforations, defects in some margins).
German contemporary binding : pigskin on wooden boards, blind decorated boards with a central panel figuring
the baptism of Jesus (with below the verse of Mark), upper board with the initials "C K" and the date "1579", all
encircled by fillets and a floral roll-stamp with portraits of Erasmus, Martin Luther, Philipp Melanchton and Jan
Hus, ribbed spine with blind fillets, blue edges (brass clasps lacking, some stains, slightly trimmed, stains and
small dampstains on the flyleaves, handwritten

rovenance on the upper one).

Collection of ancient texts (1
st
ed. : 1509) gathered together and commented by the Italian
Dominican friar and historian Nanni (c. 1432-1502). This work, which hasn't to be attributed
to the Chaldean priest Berosus (III
e
Cent. B.C.), would apparently contain writings and
fragments of Xenophon ("De aequivocis"), Megasthenes ("De iudicio temporum et annalibus
Persarum"), Johannes Annius -i.e. Nanni- ("De primus temporibus et quatuor ac viginti
regibus Hispaniae et eius antiquitate", "De antiquitate et rebus Etruriae"), Claudio Arezzo
("De situ insulae Siciliae", "Dialogus, in quo Hispania describitur"), etc. In fact it seems
likely that those fragments have been written by Nanni and other unknown counterfeiters.

¶ Collection de textes d'auteurs anciens (Xénophon, Cl. Arezzo, Mégasthène...) rassemblée par
l'historien Nanni et non pas par Bérose. Il s'agirait en fait de textes écrits par Nanni et d'autres auteurs
inconnus. Pleine peau de truie de l'ép. richement décorée à froid (lég. bruni, notes mss et soulignements,
fermoirs manquants).

characteristics of the first and second editions : the title-page shown the address of Paris,
Dupuy as the princeps but there is only one colophon at the end of part III as the second
edition. Contains : "Constantinopolitani epigrammaton ad Laurentium Medicen, Petri
Francisci filium" by Michele Marullo (1453-1500),- "

Édition originale de la traduction
parue la même année que la princeps en italien
(également par Silvius) et traduite par François Flory (originaire de Lille et directeur
d'une école de commerce à Anvers). Important ouvrage chorographique sur les anciens
Pays-Bas par Guicciardini (1521-1589), patricien florentin installé à Anvers. Les trois
premières pages (titre, armoiries du roi d'Espagne et portrait de Philippe II) sont serties
d'un encadrement gravé sur bois représentant un portique ornementé de six allégories.
Illustré de 15 planches sur doubles pages gravées sur bois, précédées d'un titre, figurant
la cathédrale d'Anvers, des vues perspectives (Louvain, Bois-le-Duc, Malines et Ypres),
des plans de ville (Bruxelles, Anvers, Amsterdam, Gand, Bruges et Liège) et des cartes
de province (Brabant, Utrecht, Flandre, Hainaut, Hasselt). Comprend également 2 cuivres
hors texte figurant 1 carte sur double page des Pays-Bas par Cornelis de Hooghe et 1 vue
dépliante de l'hôtel d'Anvers. Datée de 1565, cette dernière porte le nom de Silvius et est
plus grande (c. 30,5 x 56 cm) et plus belle que celle qui figure dans l'originale italienne.
