Alexandria and the French capitulation. Illustrated with Abercromby’s portrait in a medallion
in frontispice, 4 folding maps with the positions of the troops heightened (investment of the
Grand Cairo, Western branch of the Nile, action near Alexandria and affaire of Rahmanié in
Egypt) and 2 folding tables (state of the army under Abercromby and disembarkation return
of the troops). Work famous for its accusations against Napoleon, the author suggesting the
French Emperor poisoned the plague victims in Jaffa and ordered the massacre of Turkish
prisoners. Wilson (1777-1849) was a general who oversaw the correspondance between
Abercromby and the Turkish general in chief in Egypt, then seconded to the Imperial
Russian army in 1812, became member of the Parliament for Southwark (1818 to 1831)
and governor of Gibraltar from 1832 until his death.
