Legatura moderna in pergamena antica.
Prima edizione. Quest’opera è la «summa» delle osservazioni
e degli esperimenti dell’autore nel campo della fisica, con
particolare attenzione allo studiodel rapporto fra luce edombra,
del magnetismo, dell’acustica e della musica, dell’alchimia
etc. e rappresenta un importante catalogo delle conoscenze
scientifiche dell’epoca. Contiene soprattutto gli esperimenti
kircheriani
nel campo della fisica. Morton, 580: «includes the
first recorded experiment in hypnotism in animals»; Merrill,
29: «Naturally there are large sections in light and shadow,
magnetism, acoustics, andmusic; but there are also experiments
and observations in hydraulics, alchemy, and a myriad of other
topics. This compendium was perhaps a response to entreaties
from Kircher’s fellow scientists, who appreciated his keen
observations and experiments but did not care to wade through
some 40 volumes to glean them. The book is an example of what
Kircher’s writings could have been like at the hands of a good
editor. The Physiologia is not onlymeasure of Kircher’s scientific
curiosity and the vast range of his scientific researches, but also
a barometer of his age, a catalogue of scientific concern of his
