botany at Bologna. This volume on fishes and whales was inspired by the work of the Swiss scientist Conrad
Gessner, Belon and others. Ill. with a beautiful engr. allegorical titlepage and +/-
400 woodcuts in text
(many full-page) showing num. fishes (sawfish), aquatic animals, skeletal pieces, whales (some with feet), sea
monsters.
