La composition est parfaitement structurée: les formes se répondent et s'organisent les unes par rapport aux autres. L'ensemble tient sa vivacité de l'opposition entre le vert cru et un violet profond. Cet ensemble de tableaux provient de la collection Haba et Roger Roussot qui ont connu Serge vers 1936. Une solide amitié se noua entre le couple et l'artiste et Hélène. Cette dernière lutta souvent, avec affection, contre Serge dont l'humilité et l'exigence le poussa à souvent détruire des oeuvres qui lui avaient coûté des semaines de travail.
Here we have a perfectly-structured composition with well-combined forms that respond to each other. The vigour of the whole painting lies in the contrast between the raw green and deep purple. Set of works comes from the collection of Haba and Roger Roussot, who knew Serge in around 1936. A firm friendship grew up between the couple, the artist and Hélène. The latter often fought affectionately with Serge, whose humility and exacting standards frequently tempted him to destroy paintings that had cost him many weeks of work.
