“Vlaminck’s first illustrated book and one of the first books to bear the imprint of the Galerie Simon, under
which Kahnweiler carried on after the war, using the name of his friend André Simon, a French national. Like
his fellow Fauves, Dufy and Derain, Vlaminck also employed the woodcut for his first illustrations (though ten
years later than those two colleagues). The broadly cut pictorial designs are similar to his painted landscapes”
