Grand in-8 double, cartonnage éditeur en percaline rouge-orangé « aux
deux éléphants » type Engel et Fils. Percaline chagrinée à grains longs
(exceptionnel chez Hetzel). Gardes marron. Imprimerie Gauthier-Villars.
Dos un peu fripé d’origine. Très bel exemplaire.
Première édition illustrée et premier cartonnage concomitant avec celui
« à la bannière ».
Le seul exemplaire connu avec une telle percaline selon Éric Weissenberg.

Double large octavo, publisher’s pictorial orange-red buckram binding in the “two
elephants” style by Engel et Fils. The long-grained shagreen buckram was exceptio-
nal for Hetzel. Slightly wrinkled spine as issued. Very fine copy.
First printing with first binding style concomitant with the binding design “with
the banner”.
According to Eric Weissenberg this is the only known copy with this buckram.
