Seconde édition rédigée par le chirurgien-major de l'expédition chargée de ramener
l'obélisque de Louxor qui orne actuellement la place de la Concorde à Paris. Illustré de
3 planches dépliantes : représentation des hiéroglyphes sur l'obélisque, plan technique
avec la présentation des appareils utilisés pour transporter l'obélisque, et coupe du bateau
avec son précieux chargement.

illustrated with 14 plates and some
engravings in the text. The American physician Morton
(1799-1851), one of the founders of the Pennsylvania
Medical College, believed in polygenism and that the
skull capacity influenced the intellectual ability. To prove
his theory, he studied in his famous "Crania Americana" (1839) the skulls of Causians,
Africans, Indians, etc. In this work he focuses on the measurements and particularities of
crania found in Egyptian tombs and compare them to other nationalities.
