Letter in Latin of the Dutch scholar and statesman H. Grotius (1583-1645) to the Antwerp merchant
and literary scholar Sweertius (1567-1629), on E. Puteanus, Grotius’“Silva” etc., with greetings to
P.P. Rubens and other Antwerp friends. A reply to Sweertius’letter of 12 August 1621, and answered
by Sweertius on 16 september 1621. Sold at Sotheby’s (N.Y.) 20 March 1973.

que par son turbulent disciple, tournoyant autour de Pericles [en grec, le peintre grec Périclès
Pantazis?]”. Lettre assez elliptique dans laquelle il évoque un “crispé produit de la vieille Flandre”,
à nouveau “Pericles” (“Il aura oublié dans les bras d'une contemporaine aimable (...) la divine
tête-morte et Courbet lui-même”), le peintre hollandais Cornelis Scherner, “batave au laudanum”,
les visites “du R. Dom Martin” (l'écrivain Léon Dommartin) et une certaine Mme Moore qui se
trouve alors en Egypte (“... après un an d'absence les oreilles lui tintent encore des énormités
que vous avez cru devoir lui débiter pour faire son éducation!”).

“peste” trop. Je n'y tiens plus”. Il lui envoie son petit “jas” (“Puisse-t-il donner des inspirations à
vos tailleurs respectifs et contribuer à rendre tous les hôtes d'Anseremme plus “pochards” et plus
