of the doctrinal works of the French monk Cassian (360/365-
433/435), considered as a Saint by the Orthodox and Catholic Churches, given by the
second bishop of Ruremonde Henri Cuyck (+ 1609). Contains : «De Institutis coenobiorum
et de octo principalium vitiorum remediis» on the monastic life and obstacles a monk has

eremo commorantium» which consists of 24 conferences on Cassian memories of Egypt
and dialogues with the Desert Fathers on the ascetical perfection (dealing with numerous
subjects of spiritual life) and «De incarnatione Christi, contra Nestorium», defense of the
orthodoxe doctrine against the opinions of the patriarch of Constantinople Nestorius on
the two natures of Jesus Christ (God and Human). Cassian advised the regional synod
of Rome which condamned Nestorius’ position before the Council of Ephesus. After these
works, Cuyck gives in the «Catalogus manuscriptorum» or «Castigatoriae notae», other
text versions which are followed by his commentaries.
