on his relationship with Luther. Erasmus confronted him by writing a letter denying that he defended Luther
(Allen 1634, also printed here). Alberto drafted a "Responsio", finally publ. in 1529, soon followed by a
"Responsio" by Erasmus.

selling of military booty and captives "sub hasta" - the spear denoting ownership - auctions continued to be a
common method of sale both publicly and privately. Rabier sketches its history as well as discussing its
