Maury from Paris, with great seal of Queen Victoria.

London, 28 october 1857.

2 large leaves printed on vellum and completed by hand (52 x 75 cm and 46 x 60 cm) with large engraved

decorative borders. Great seal of Queen Victoria (diam. 17 cm), depicting her enthroned on one side and

mounted on horseback on the other, white wax, captured in a round metal box, blue patent stamp (royal arms

of 2nd document cut, seal broken).

Letters patent n° 2730 granted by the "Office of Commissioners of Patents for Inventions"

to Pierre Adolphe Melchior Maury, merchant from Paris, for his "improvements in cutting

the pile of velvets and other pile fabrics". Important document from the Age of the Industrial

Revolution.

¶ Brevet d'invention à P.A.M. Maury de Paris pour ses améliorations techniques pour la coupe du

velours et autres textiles. 2 feuilles de vélin mi-imprimées, mi-écrites avec grandes bordures décoratives

imprimées, grand cachet de cire blanche figurant la Reine Victoria (armoiries royales découpées au 2e

feuillet, sceau cassé).
