Early post-incunabulum of the Psalm 51 referred as the "Miserere" edited by Sadoleto
(1477-1547), cardinal and bishop of Carpentras who helped in the preparations of the
Council of Trent. Sadoleto was a dedicated servant to papacy and was involved in the
negociations between Francis I and Charles V leading to The truce of Nice in 1538. He also
tried to win back the Protestants by persuasion and presenting the catholic religion under a
conciliatory form. With a historiated initial letter and the printer's mark (?) at the last page.

Eerste uitgave van de "Leuvense Bijbel", zijnde de Vulgaat-vertaling bezorgd door Nicolas
van Winghe (1495-1552), kanunnik van St. Maartensdal te Leuven, ter vervanging van de
Liesveldt- en de Vorstermanbijbel. De titelomlijsting met bijbelse taferelen in houtsnede,
alsook de c. 100 figuren in de tekst, zijn dezelfde als deze van de Vorstermanbijbel uit 1542.
Gedrukt in Gotische typografie op 2 kolommen met enkele versierde initialen.

title-page, dampstains, some large, copy slightly yellowed).
Contemporary binding: sprinkled sheepskin, boards encircled with 3 blind fillets, gilt decorated ribbed spine
(joints partly split, upper turn in lacking, some scratches, joints lightly rubbed, edges and corners dulled, two
corners strongly, label on the upper pastedown).

Erasmus' paraphrases of the Gospel of John and the Acts of the Apostles (without notes
on Matthew, Mark and Luke), part of the first volume of his commentaries in 2 volumes on
all the New Testament (1st ed. : 1521-1524). Work decorated with some ornemental initial
letters, one figuring the portrait of the Roman Empress Lollia Paulina and with four marks
of Froben (2 large).
