Very rare first edition
of this biblical encyclopaedia and commentaries. With woodcut
illustrations : 1 full-page portrait of Aaron, 1 diagram in texto and printer's marks on the title-
page and on the last page, several ornamental initials. Scholar and exegete Sixtus of Siena
(1520-1569) was first a Franciscan monk but accused of heresy he became a Dominican.

First edition
of the annotations on variants in numerous texts from the Bible by François
Lucas (1548/1549-1619), Flemish priest and dean of Saint-Omer. Intended to be part of the
Plantin's Latin Bible of 1574, "Lucas found it impossible to condense into the marginal notes
the reasons why such and such version prevailed [...]. In 1574 only the "Variae lectiones
Novi Testamenti" were finished, too late to be inserted into the Bible-edition" (# Voet). The
annotations were reprinted with the in-f° edition of the Bible in 1583. Plantin's mark on the
title-page.
