caption. Pasted by upper corners under passe-partout and frame (unframed). Central fold and light

stains almost visible on verso, some sm. wormholes, corners strengthened, paper locally thinner at

upper right side. Good general condition.

Rare 1st state (of 3) with Cock’s adress, 3 lines Latin verses and the word “Hospital”. Reverse

drawing by P. Brueghel in Berlin, dated 1558.

below engr.: “C. Dankertz excudit”. Some foxing stains, expert restoration of tear near middle and

edges.

2nd state (of 2), with Dankertz’s name. From a set of 12 large landscape etchings designed by

Bruegel for the Antwerp print publisher H. Cock. His preparatory drawing has been followed

closely in the print. However the foreground trees, all the figures, and the distant ships were added

by the etchers Jan and Lucas van Doetecum.
