Philippe Schmidt, one from Chaillot (upper part) and the other from the Notre-Dame bell towers

carte typo-géographique de la France basée sur la carte des Ponts-et-Chaussées,
inventée et imprimée par Firmin-Didot, sous la direction de Barbié du Bocage et dessinée par J.
Langlois. En cartouche: carte de Corse. Sous la carte se trouve l’“Explication du système établi
par Firmin Didot”. Cette carte illustre le procédé d’impression en relief, qui nécessite 8 passages en
commençant par le bleu, puis le rouge, le marron, le vert foncé et le vert clair, le jaune et finalement
2 passages de noir. Chaque couleur donne une information d’ordre topographique. Le relief est
figuré par une combinaison de hachures et de passages de couleurs.
