The German surveyor C. Niebuhr (1733-1815) travelled extensively in Egypt, Arabia, Persia,

Palestine and Asia Minor. His works have long been classics on the geography, the people, the

antiquities and the archaeology of much of the district of Arabia which he traversed. His 1st vol.,

“Beschreibung von Arabien”, was published at Copenhagen in 1772, the Danish government

defraying the expenses of the abundant illustrations. Engr. ills in 1st work: titles and

and folding map, with views, maps, script ills. Numerous words or passages in Arabic. In 2nd
