of Ch. Rogers engr. by W.W. Ryland after J. Reynolds, a printed titlep., a calligr. engr. dedication to

, some in colours or monochrom, by Bartolozzi, Cipriani,

Ryland, Watts and others after drawings of mainly Italian artists (Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael,

Correggio, the Carracci, Reni...) but also after Poussin, Rembrandt, Boucher, Rubens, etc., from

the collections of Rogers himself, Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Hudson, etc. Charles Rogers (1711–

1784) was an art collector and connoisseur, a friend of H. Walpole, J. Reynolds, A. Pond and other

prominent men of his days; his considerable art collection included many prints and drawings.

18 x 24 cm (marges inégales); non signé, nom de l’éditeur et courtes légendes gravés dans la pl.

Collé par le bord g. sous passe-partout. Coins gauches un peu abîmés.

Amusante gravure satirique figurant un vieillard lutinant une belle qualifiée de “tombeau des

viellard”, alors qu’il a déjà “le pied sur le bord de la fosse”; autres détails plaisants, un chien qui

hurle et un chat qui éternue “de mauvais augure”, une lampe qui se consume, la mort qui décoche

une flèche, un singe myope vidant la bourse du vieillard, etc. Publiée “chez Landry à St François”,

i.e. le graveur et éditeur Pierre Landry (1630-1701)?

- Sarah, s.d. Gravure d’après H. Goltzius, 22 x 16 cm (marges étroites); nom

gravé “IG inventor” et légende “Effoeto sterilis (...) Sara (...)” par C. Schonaeus. Collé par le bord
