received a good deal of praise. I am indulging myself to the
extent of writing a shorter essay myself for a next number
dealing with you and A.L. Rowse togheter and I hope to pro-
voke replies from both of you although of coure discussion
on the subject will have to get shorter and shorter. For this
reason I shall have to allow a considerable interim before
introducing you on another subject […]”.

much interest. I am afraid it is not suitable for The Criterion
and therefore I am returning it to you quickly […]. One rea-
son is that it is only incidentally about Abyssinia, and I think
really that you ought to reshape it yourself into several dif-
ferent articles. One might be about the decadence of Brit-
ain and another about the rise of the Italian nation […]”.
