macchie d'inchiostro).
In un vol. in-f° ad hoc in piena pergamena con cucitura apparente, rimbocchi e fermagli, dorso liscio con titolo
all'inchiostro e piccole etichette.

La Congregazione Propaganda Fide fu istituita nel 1622 da Gregorio XV per dirigere e
coordinare l'opera di evangelizzazione dei popoli. Interessanti documenti in italiano
manifestando della sua attivitàmissionaria, al momento della soppressione della Compagnia
di Gesù, in Madagascar, Algeria, Tunisia, Grecia, Armenia, Siria, Giappone, etc. Trattono
delle gestione delle missioni, situazione degli schiavi Siciliani in Algeria (si lamentano di
non potere o mandare o ricevere delle lettere), come ha fatto il cattolicesimo a vincere il
luteranismo o calvinismo (p. es. nei paesi dell'Est Europa), come fare propagare la religione,
descrizione geografica di Madagascar, censura di un libro in Grecia, cohabitazione tra la
religione latina e quella indigena, risultati della missione a Tunis (616 evangelizzati), etc.
Provenienza : Sir Thomas Phillips (1792-1872), grande bibliofilo che possedava 40.000 libri
e 60.000 manoscritti, probabilmente la più larga collezione riunita da una persona privata
(nota ms.).

mundane ecclesiastical matters, Sicilian slaves, propaganda efforts, etc. Gathered in 1 vol., parchment.

Collection de copies de lettres en italien concernant la Congrégation De Propaganda Fide. Important
témoignage des activités missionnaires (à Madagascar, en Algérie, Syrie, Tunisie, Grèce, Japon...)
traitant de questions religieuses, des esclaves siciliens, des progrès de l'évangélisation, etc. Réunies
en 1 vol. plein parchemin.

Office of the Dead, in Latin, following the use of the Benedictine
Abbey of Seebach (Dürkheim, Rheinland).
In-8° (18 x 13 cm) : [87] leaves of heavy vellum (last lv blank, tear with small lack at the bottom of lv 6, small
clear angular stain at lower right corner of last lvs).
Contemporary binding : full calf over wooden boards, blind stamped decoration of large rectangulars with roll-
stamps figuring virtues, 5 floral gilt tools in the center and at the corners of the inner rectangular of each board,
ribbed spine, one brass clasp (of 2) (front hinge weak)

Rare Flemish Book of Hours signed ans dated by the scribe
: "Adrian[us] Donchius
scripsit hu[n]c libru[m] 1572" (34r°); "Finis 1572" (86r°).
The text (12 x 8 cm, with wide margins) is written in a "littera hybrida" by a neat and large
late-gothic hand; rubricated throughout in red and blue and with musical scores on 4 lines.
With large 7-line illuminated initial "D" on a brick background containing the coat of arms
of the family van Zuylen van Nyevelt and their name "Suylen van Nieuvelt" in a banderolle
above (40r°, i.e. on the first leaf of the Seven Penitential Psalm). This page with illuminated
borders showing brightly colored flowers and a peacock on a yellow background in the late
Ghent-Bruges style.
Another manuscript with the same text and by the same hand is actually part of the collection
of the "Conservatoire de Paris" (Rés. 1542).
▲ Provenance : written for a female member of the Dutch noble family van Zuylen
van Nyevelt (see also at the bottom of 40r° where the name in pen is cut half away), a
Benedictine nun at the abbey of Saint-Lawrence of Seebach near Dürkheim (Rheinland,
Germany), founded in 1198 and suppressed in 1589.
