Aldine ed. : 1515) revised on the manuscripts from Monte Cassino

by Onorato Fascitello (1502-1564), bishop of Isola di Capo Rizzuto (Crotone) and friend

of Pietro Bembo and Aretino. Contains the apologetic works ("De opificio Dei", the most

famous "Institutiones Divinae" with its Epitome and "De ira Dei") and poems ("Phoenix"

and on Christ's passion and resurrection). Lactantius (c. 250-c. 325), classical romanized

African scholar, was invited by emperor Diocletian to teach rhetoric in Nicomedia but after

his conversion to Christianity, was dismissed as a result of Diocletian's first edict against

the Christians in 303. Followed by the work of Tertullianus in which he defends Christianity,

demands legal toleration and that Christians be treated as all other sects of the Roman

empire. Printed in italic types; Aldine's anchor on the title-page and on the verso of last leaf.
