Charming genre scenes by the German engraver J.J. Haid (1704–1767), actif in Augsburg. He is

known for his large mezzotint portraits. The pls show 2 young couples: a boy showing the bird he

catched to a young girl, and a girl trying to sell the grapes she just harvested to a boy. Under each

scenery the title and a 4-line caption in French and in German.

Grande gravure très animée figurant d’après nature une bataille fourmillante de soldats à pied

ou à cheval, dans un vaste paysage de collines où un village brûle au loin; cert. des protagonistes

(pillards...) à l’avant-plan semblent vêtus à la hongroise.

HOGARTH, William

- Harlot’s progress. London, G. G. & J. Robinson, 1798-1799, 6 engravings,

36,3 x 41,3 cm, full-col. (clear marg. waterstain). Good set.

Nice complete set of “Harlot’s Progress” which tells the story of the fall and speedy destruction of

a girl who comes from the country to London to earn a livelihood. The work is primarily didactic.

The original paintings were destroyed in a fire. The original plates survived, and were sold by

Hogarth’s widow, Jane, to John Boydell in 1789; by him to Baldwin, Cradock and Joy in 1818;

and then to Henry Bohn in 1835. Each produced further copies. Our set is probably printed by

Cradock or Bohn.

JEGHER, Christoffel

- Susanna surprised by the two elders, 17th c. Woodcut after P.P. Rubens, 44

x 57,5 cm (trimmed to the borderline); with names and Rubens’ privilege. Some tears formerly and

roughly repaired (mainly visible on verso), paper locally rubbed in lower part, small lack of paper

in right margin. Still an impressive plate.
