Melanchthon in which they present monsters as criticism on monastic institutions and their papal
overlords. The pamphlet combines 2 monsters: the creatures they called the Papal Ass and the Monk
Calf.

represent La Théologie, La Médecine, L’architecture, La Géographie et La Philosophie. Within a
decorative engr. frame. Marillier (1740-1808) specialised in book illustrations.

- Suite of scenes of the New Testament. Brussels, c. 1700, 24 (of 28) copper
engravings, various sizes between 20/22 x 25,4/27,3 cm. Stuck by corners on later laid paper. Some
minor def.: sm. marg. tears rep., some minor marg. soiling, some trimmed to the platemark. Good
set.

Nice engravings by R. van Orley (Brussels 1663-1732), Flemish painter, draughtsman & etcher.
Most of his work depicted religious and mythological subjects. Here scenes of the Gospel i.a.
adoration of the Magi, baptism by S. John, the miraculous catch of fish, walking on the water,
exorcisms, healings, the raising of Lazarus from the Dead, etc.
