Extr. rare and interesting pamphlet:
1st ed.
of an instruction by the States of Brabant, regulating
the counting of all fireplaces, furnaces and forges, and the collection of taxes to be paid for each
of them. Expressly included are all furnaces of tradesmen, like gold- and silversmiths, all sorts
of bakeries etc. In the cities one generally had to pay 20 and in the country 15 “stuvers” per
fireplace. When a chimney was concealed, a fine of 3 “Carolusgulden” was to be paid. Religious
praying orders were exempted. On verso of the last leaf the names are given of the Superintendants,
responsible for carrying out the instruction in the 4 main cities of Brabant: Louvain, Brussels,
Antwerp and ‘s Hertogenbosch.
