Uncommon second edition

(1st Douai 1587) of this historical standard work by the historian F.

Vander Haer (or Haraeus; 1547-1634) on the beginning of the revolt in the Low Countries against

Spain, known as the “Eighty Year’s War”. This impartial cont. description of Holland’s struggle

for independence is based on eyewitness accounts and own experiences of the author, born from an

Utrecht noble family. He became a clergyman, was appointed professor of theology at Louvain and

later lived as a canon at Douai.
