of Erasmus’ apology against objections made by 2 Paris theologians (J. Clichtoveus and N.

Beda) to his views on marriage etc. in the dialogue “Inquisitio de Fide” (1526). When their attacks

were finally publ. in 1531, he sent his “Dilutio” to the press, with 2 supplementary apologies about Lent

and against Alberto Pio. Mark on title, larger one at end.

notes.

1st ed. of Erasmus’ 2nd reply to Luther’s “De servo arbitrio”

(1525). Erasmus had already replied

in 1526, but was pressed to publish a more extensive treatise on the debate fired by Luther. Woodcut

mark on title and at the end. In italics. A few old ms. notes (i.a. p. 515, cropped). Old names

and notes on title, i.a. “Joh: Val: Maier”, not Luther’s adversary Johann Maier von Eck (Eckius,

1486-1543) but most probably “Johann Valentin Maier” (1595-1668), Lutheran physician at the

Brandenburg court.
