celibacy

(in casu of St Paul), by the Augustinian K. Leib (1471-1553), a

defender of monastic vows. It is written in the form of a letter (from his convent in Rebdorf, 4 Dec.

1544) to the Catholic apologetic controversialist Johannes Cochlaeus (1479-1552). Cochlaeus

published the letter with an additional dedication to the bishop of Speyer (5 Dec. 1544). The text

contains some references to Erasmus’ views. Large woodcut ill. on title. In italics. Ownership entry

of the Mechelen collector “Gaspard-Joseph de Servais” (1737-1807). Mod. heraldic bookpl. of

an archbishop of Bourges.

anti-Jewish polemic

by the Dominican A. Stabili (fl. 1580-1585). The

“Dossier of Jewish Vanity” is a philosophical and theological dialogue (lasting 16 days!) between

the sceptical Jew Moyse and his friend Salomon, about Jewish faith, religion, Mosaic law etc.
