Joannes Bellerus’ very rare 3rd rev. ed. (1st 1544, 2nd 1555) of a treatise on the legal aspects of

guardianship by the Bruges lawyer Damhouder (1507-1581). The present ed. is the only one to

contain the additional texts

in praise of Bruges

of this important history of Burgundy and esp. of the Low Countries

until 1565, published as a continuation of Heuterus’ “Rerum Belgicarum” (Antwerp 1583), which

covers the period until c. 1480. As a canon in Gorinchem, Pontus De Heuter was captured by the

“Geuzen” in 1572 but could escape martyrdom and flee to the Southern Netherlands. After having

been a canon at Deventer from 1585 till 1591, he moved to St. Truiden, where he died in 1602. With

13 folding printed genealogical tables.

on title and at the end. On verso of title full-page woodcut arms of the dedicatee, Duke of Medina

Celi. A number of sm. woodcut diagrams. Numerous calculations. In italics. A few old ms. notes
