Pre-sale Estimates
The pre-sale
estimates are intended purely as a guide
for prospective buyers.Any bid between
the high and the low pre-sale estimates
o(ers a fair chance of success. It is always
advisable to consult us nearer the time
of sale as estimates can be subject to
revision.
Condition of the property
Solely as a
convenience,wemay provide condition
reports.
All property is sold in the condition in
which they were o(ered for sale with all
their imperfections and defects.No claim
can be accepted for minor restoration or
small damages.
It is the responsibility of the prospective
bidders to inspect each property prior
to the sale and to satisfy themselves
that each property corresponds with its
description.Given that the re-lining,frames
and linings constitute protectivemeasures
and not defects,they will not be noted.
Anymeasurements provided are only
approximate.
All prospective buyers shall have the
opportunity to inspect each property for
sale during the pre-sale exhibition in order
to satisfy themselves as to characteristics,
size as well as any necessary repairs or
restoration.

clocks) are sold on the basis of their
decorative value only and should not be
assumed to be operative. It is essential that
prior to any intended use,the electrical
system is checked and approved by a
quali`ed electrician.

2. BIDDING IN THE SALE
Bidsmay be executed in person by
paddle during the auction or by telephone
or online,or by a third person who will
transmit the orders in writing or by
telephone prior to the sale.The auctions
will be conducted in Euros.Acurrency
converter will be operated in the salesroom
for your convenience but,as errorsmay
occur,you should not rely upon it as a
substitute for bidding in Euros.
Bidding in Person
To bid in person at the
auction,you will need to register for and
collect a numbered paddle before the
auction begins.Proof of identity and bank
references will be required.
If you wish to bid on a property,please
indicate clearly that you are bidding by
raising your paddle and attracting the
attention of the auctioneer.Should you
be the successful buyer of any property,
please ensure that the auctioneer can see
your paddle and that it is your number that
is called out.
Should there be any doubts as to price
or buyer,please draw the auctioneer’s
attention to it immediately.
Sotheby’s will invoice all property sold to
the name and address in which the paddle
has been registered and invoices cannot be
transferred to other names and addresses.
In the event of loss of your paddle,please
inform the sales clerk immediately.
At the end of the sale,please return your
paddle to the registration desk.
Bidding as Principal
If youmake a bid
at auction,you do so as principal and
Sotheby’smay hold you personally and
solely liable for that bid unless it has been
previously agreed that you do so on behalf
of an identi`ed and acceptable third party
and you have produced a valid written
power of attorney acceptable to us. In this
case,you and the third party are held jointly
and severally responsible. In the event of a
challenge by the third party,Sotheby’smay
hold you solely liable for that bid.
Absentee Bids
If you cannot attend the
auction,we will be pleased to execute
written bids on your behalf.

back of this catalogue.This service is free
and con`dential. In the event of identical
bids,the earliest bid received will take
precedence.
Always indicate a“top limit”.“Buy”and
unlimited bids will not be accepted.

Bidding by Telephone
If you cannot attend
the auction, it is possible to bid on the
telephone on property with aminimum
low estimate of €4,000.As the number of
telephone lines is limited, it is necessary
tomake arrangements for this service 24
hours before the sale. Moreover, in order
to ensure a satisfactory service to bidders,
we kindly ask you tomake sure that we
have received your written con`rmation
of telephone bids at least 24 hours before
the sale.
We also suggest that you leave a
covering bid which we can execute on your
behalf in the event we are unable to reach
you by telephone.Multi-lingual sta( are
available to execute bids for you.
Telephone bidding will be recorded to
ensure anymisunderstanding over bidding
during the auctions.
Bidding Online
If you cannot attend
the auction, it is possible to bid directly
online.Online bids aremade subject to
the BIDnowConditions available on the
Sotheby’s website or upon request.The
BID nowConditions apply in relation to
online bids in addition to these Conditions
of Sale.
3. AT THE AUCTION
Conditions of Sale
The auction is
governed by the Conditions of Sale printed
in this catalogue.Anyone considering
bidding in the auction should read the
Conditions of Sale carefully.Theymay be
amended by way of notices posted in the
salesroomor by way of announcement
made by the auctioneer.
Access to the property during the sale
For security reasons,prospective bidders
will not be able to view the property whilst
the auction is taking place.
Auctioning
The auctioneer may
commence and advance the bidding
at levels he considers appropriate and
is entitled to place consecutive and
responsive bids on behalf of the seller until
the reserve price is achieved.

Payment
Payment is due immediately
after the sale andmay bemade by the
followingmethods:
• Bank wire transfer in Euros
• Euro travellers cheque
• Euro banker’s draft
• Euro cheque
• Credit cards (Visa ,Mastercard,
American Express,CUP); Please note
that 40,000 EUR is themaximum
payment that can be accepted by credit
card.
• Cash in Euros : for private or
professionals to an equal or lower
amount of €1,000 per sale (but to an
amount of €15,000 for a non French
resident for tax purposes who does not
operate as a professional). It remains at
the discretion of Sotheby’s to assess the
evidence of non-tax residence as well
as proof that the buyer is not acting for
professional purposes.
Cashiers and the Collection of Purchases
o ce are open daily 10am to 12.30pmand
2pm to 6pm.
It is Sotheby’s policy to request any new
clients or buyers preferring tomake a cash
payment to provide proof of identity (by
providing some formof government issued
identi`cation containing a photograph,
such as a passport, identity card or driver’s
licence) and con`rmation of permanent
address. Thank you for your co-operation.
Cheques and drafts should bemade
payable to Sotheby’s.Although personal
and company cheques drawn up in Euro
on French bank as by a foreign bank are
accepted,you are advised that property will
not be released before the `nal collection
of the cheque,collection that can take
several days,or even several weeks as for
foreign cheque (credit after collection).
On the other hand,the lot will be issued
immediately if you have a pre-arranged
ChequeAcceptance Facility.

Collection of Purchases
Purchases
can only be collected after payment
in full in cleared funds has beenmade
and appropriate identi`cation has been
provided.
All property will be available during,or
after each session of sale on presentation
of the paid invoice with the release
authorisation from the ClientAccounts
O ce.
Should lots sold at auction not be
collected by the buyer immediately after
the auction,those lots will,after 30 days
following the auction sale (including the
date of the sale),be stored at the buyer’s
risk and expense and then transferred to a
storage facility designated by Sotheby’s at
the buyer’s risk and expense.
All charges due to the storage facility
shall bemet in full by the buyer before
collection of the property by the buyer.
Insurance
Sotheby’s accepts liability for
loss or damage to lots for amaximum
period of 30 (thirty) calendar days after
the date of the auction (including the
date of the auction).After that period,
the purchased lots are at the Buyer’s sole
responsibility for insurance.
Export of cultural goods
The export of
any property fromFrance or import into
any other countrymay be subject to one
or more export or import licences being
granted.
It is the buyer’s responsibility to obtain
any relevant export or import licence.
Buyers are reminded that property
purchasedmust be paid for immediately
after the auction.
