COPIE CONSERVÉE PAR LAFAYETTE DE SA RÉPONSE AUX DEUX CHAMBRES AU SUJET DU DON QU’ELLES ONT FAIT AU “OLD AMERICAN SOLDIER AND ADOPTED SON OF THE UNITED STATES" “Gentlemen of the Committee of Both houses of Congress, the immense and unexpected gift Which, in addition to former and considerable Bounties, it has Pleased Congress to confer upon me calls for the Warmest aknowledgments [sic] of an old American Soldier and adopted son of the united States, two titles dearer to my heart than all the treasures in the World", sans doute de la main de Levasseur The original is in the collections of the New Jersey Historical Society (Gottschalk, Guide, p.191).
