EXEMPLAIRE DE LAFAYETTE. GRAND HOMMAGE DES FRANCS-MAÇONS DU MAINE. LE NOM DE LAFAYETTE SERA “ENROLED WITH THAT OF WASHINGTON IN THE ARCHIVES OF THE FRATERNITY" Hommage des Francs-Maçons du Maine : “In addressing you as Masons by the endearing appellation of Brother, they are assured from the dignity which has confered on the Institution, as well as the favor you have shewn its members, they shall not in your mind be charged with a want of due respect", signé par neuf membres du “Committee of the Grand Lodge of the State of Maine" Until 1820, Maine was a District of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In 1819, the people of Maine voted to withdraw from Massachusetts and form a separate State. The Maine Lodges met in convention and voted to form their own Grand Lodge. Maine joined the Union as the 23rd State and the Grand Lodge of Maine was founded on June 1, 1820.
