Remarkable collection of architectural & topographical plates of important French historical monuments, commissionned by Achille Fould (1800-1867), a French financier and politician. As minister of state and of the imperial household, he directed the Paris exhibition of 1855. Engr. ills. on chine collée, made after designs of E. Viollet-le-Duc, E. Boeswillwald, P. Abadie, E. Millet etc. by A. Soudain, F. Penel, C. Sauvageot, etc. All depicted monuments are fully described. Vol. 1 : "Architecture antique & Moyen Age: Architecture religieuse", with 64 full-page (incl. 5 col. by Regamey) and 8 double-page pls, depicting i.a. the churches of N.D. de Beaune, Eu, N.D. de Laon, Loupiac de Cadillac, Neuvy-Saint-Sépulcre, etc. Vol. 2 : "Moyen Age : Architecture religieuse", with 71 full-page (incl. 1 col.) and 1 double-page pl. of i.a.
