Description
Very nice letter in French to his Belgian friend, composer and conductor Franz Servais (1846-1901) who lived in Halle (his statue in the middle of the Grand Place). Rumors tell us Servais could be the adoptive or illegitimate son of Liszt and Carolyne de Sayn-Wittgenstein or Sophie Servais. Anyhow, Servais could always count on the full support of Liszt during his musical development. In that time in winter, Liszt withdrew into Villa d'Este and refrained from all official invitations and travelling to commit himself fully to his music : "continuer d'écrire en pleine tranquillité". Post scriptum about Hans von Bülow, former-student of Liszt and first husband of Cosima, daughter of Liszt. The relationship between Liszt and his daughter cooled down in 1870 after Cosima, who was still married to von Bülow, declared her love to Richard Wagner, whome she later would marry.
