Description
spine (1st and last ff. dampstained), 204 ff., 17 ll. (within ruled borders), in brown/black ink. In good condition. Illumination: 2 full-page miniatures on a green background, with figures in blue, pink, red or yellow, and in full borders matching the 9 decorative borders (as described above). Subjects: David in prayer in a landscape (f. 57v); the Raising of Lazarus (f. 87v - soiled), full-page arms of Croÿ-Renty. Contents: Utrecht Calendar (ff. 1v-13r, 13v blank), “Ghetide(n) vander ewigher wijsheit” (ff. 15r-39v), Long Hours of the Holy Cross (40r-65v, inc. at end), Hours of the Holy Virgin (66r-106v, inc. at beginning and end), Hours of the Holy Ghost, with additional text from the Breviary Office of Pentecost (ff. 107r-135v), 7 Peninential Psalms ( ff. 136r-144v, inc. at beginning), Litany of All Saints (ff. 144v-156v), Vigils of the Dead (ff. 157r-197v, inc. at beginning); Prayers: “Regina coeli” (ff. 135r-v), Johannes of Fécamp “Summe sacerdos” (ff. 198r-201v), “Dencke dit in dijnre hertten alstu onse here in dinen mont ontfanghen hebste” (ff. 201v-204r, 204v blank).
Decoration: a. miniature (pasted on f. 14v): Coronation of the Virgin, with gilt ruled border (oval at top), in red, brown, blue and green; b. two 9-line blue initials with pink/green decoration (ff. 15r, 40r), gilt border, extensive marginal penwork; c. 29 4/5-line gilt initials in blue/pink with gilt marginal penwork; d. numerous 1/2-line initials in red or blue; e. calendar in red and blue.
