Description
Later ed. (first 1807) of this attractive work on medical and useful plants by the French botanist and physician J. Roques (1772-1850). Illustr. with 133 (72, 61) beautiful handcoloured engraved plates (incl. the frontisp.) of plants, with details such as roots, flowers and fruits. Each plant is identified with his common name and the one adopted by Linnaeus. Furthermore the various classification systems of Linnaeus, Tournefort and Jussieu, summarised in the"'Discours préliminaire", are also mentioned. Roques, born in Valence, studied in Montpellier and moved later on to Paris where he became an eminent botanist.
