Description
Images depicting the family de Smet - van Overstraeten in 1895 (Frederic's youngest sister dies at the age of 3, his father died in 1885). Several images show Frederic ? in painter uniform, busy sculpting in his workplace or joking with his brother(s) : 1 slide " Messieurs : Jules & Frederic de Smet, 1896". Other names occuring on the slides : André de Buck, George Heyman, L.J.J. de Smet, Christian Crame, Madam de Smet van Overstraete and Marcel Amelot, Jules de Smet, Léon de Buck, Marie-Louise de Smet, Fernand Van Acker, Elisabeth de Smet, Simonne Amelot and mother, Marcelle de Prat, Henri Van Wetter,... Some images taken in a factory. Frederic's father, Jean de Smet, was a manufacturer and had a flax processing factory. Also slides of Château "La Klosse" in Zwijnaarde (1896). Several images of the brothers de Smet posing in a funny way doing acrobatic tricks or holding a medical skeleton. Friends and family on holiday (besides unidentified places also the Ardennes, Germany, Venice, etc.), in and around automobiles, on horseback, in nature,... Some slides with legend pasted on referring to "Voyage Allemagne-Christian, 1911" or to "A. Crame-1911". Some staged photographs depicting muses ?, states of minds, etc. We join : Images of private trips showing mostly the same couple on the road, visiting a castle, in nature, etc. Also some family (?) portraits, images of a city with destroyed houses (bombing ?),... Trips to Germany and Italy (Florence, Venice) deduced from captions and inscriptions on photographed buildings. - 1 box (water damage) of private trips to Como Lake, Döggingen, Strasburg, Bludenz, Innsbruck, St Anton am Arlberg, Kitsbühel, Krimml, Mittersill, Zell am See, Pötschen Pass, Venice, etc. Trips with the automobile. - 1 box with title label "Voyage L. Braun", no further indications on the slides of whom this could be. Several images are possibly taken in Asia, perhaps India as we can see temples, pagodas, Indian-looking people etc. Other images depicting a Greek ? harbour.
