Description
Images of Ghent around the start of the 20th century including views of streets (Rue d'Ypres, Rue Belgrade, Boulevard de la Citadelle), monuments (Beguinage, Pakhuis), churches (St Bavo's Cathedral, St Nicolas' Church), the botanical garden, rivers, canals, etc. Some images of E. Sacré (1851-1921, Belgian photographer of the World Exhibition in 1913, he also captured many buildings, renovations, street scenes, landscapes and squares in and around Ghent). Part of the images probably show the urban planning and urbanisation towards the World Exhibition of Ghent in 1913. In that time many historical buildings and monuments were liberated from houses which were built directly against those monuments. Images of the Palace of Justice, the Belfry (renovation tower), Gravensteen, the townhall, the Korenmarkt, Rabot, G. Duivelsteen, Koninklijk Museum van Schone Kunsten, Vismijn, J. Van Artevelde, St Peter's Church, the St-Peter's railway station (its construction), Citadelpark, St Anna, etc. Labels : "Ed. Beernaert's Dry Plate Company".
