Description
London, W. Butcher & Sons, c. 1900 8 col. lantern slides (the illustrations and accompanying rhymes for 5 and 6 and for 2 and 3 are each combined on a single glass slide to make this a set of 8 rather than 10 slides), 82 x 82 mm, bound around edges with black paper tape, kept in orig. box. Complete set of 8 lantern slides telling the story of "Ten Little Nigger Boys". The slides were produced under the trade name Primus, as part 515 of the Junior Lecturers' Series, A set of lantern slides. Reading was done on the slides, other series had a printed reading. The rhyme of "Ten Litte Nigger Boys" was adapted in the late 1800s from "10 Little Injuns", written by Septimus Winner in 1868. It became widely known in Europe and was used by Agatha Christie in her novel 'Ten Little Niggers' (1939).
