Very rare autograph by one of the 1st Dutch Jesuits, friend and collaborator of Petrus Canisius, Petrus Buys/Busaeus (Nijmegen c. 1540 – Wien 1587). He entered the Jesuit College of Cologne in 1562, in 1567 he became master of novices and teacher, and in 1571 he left for Wien, where he became professor of Biblical studies and Hebrew. The long letter (2 pp.) is addressed  “An die ... frome widwe Wendell van Tryst myn liue nicht wonafftig tho Nimmegen in die bröder straet”. The text, mainly on devotional matters, also explicitely refers to the situation in Nijmegen: “Ich hoep dat dy van Nymmegen nu eens verlost syn van dy oprurige Goesen vnd ketters, ende dat die Catholici nu meer angesteken syn sich vaster an den alten & alleinselichmakenden geloue(n) halden sulle(n)”.
