2 vol., 4to, orig. brown publ. cloth, gilt dove design by Charles Ricketts to upper boards (corners sl. bumped), gilt flat spines, edges untrimmed, decorative endpapers by Lucien Pissarro, 243-[1 bl.]-viii-[1-1 bl.], [8]-266-iv-[4] pp. (a few faint sprays of spotting on 1st and last ff. of vol. 2). Very good set. Complete collection of this important periodical that originated from the close artistic and literary collaboration of artists at the end of the 19th c. Illustrated throughout with 41 monochrome and colour plates and some in text vignettes or pl. In Vol. I : title-page designed by Selwyn Image, 1 original lithograph by James Abbot McNeil Whistler and reprod of paintings and drawings of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Charles Ricketts, Edward Burne-Jones, Charles H. Shannon, John Everett Millais, etc.; contains the 1st publication of 2 poems by W. B. Yeats as well as essays and poems by Swinburne, Verlaine, M. Maeterlinck, T. Sturge Moore, Max Beerbohm... Vol. II contains 1 original woodcut in 5 blocks by L. Pissarro and ill. by G. Moreau, L. Housman, Puvis de Chavannes, W. Crane, etc.; texts by E. Gosse, Villiers de l'Isle-Adam, Ch. Ricketts ("A note on original wood-engraving"), etc. Nice engr. bookplate AK representing 3 bees and signed "KC" in the plate (i.e. Arthur Kay, husband of the Glasgow School artist Katherine Cameron).
