Description
Very rare. Published in 10 parts with all the wrappers and 50 fine engraved plates by Jules Jacquemart. "Sumptuous edited by the leading Paris booksellers Techener, father and son, with fifty faithfully etched plates by Jules Jacquemart, reproducing bindings of royal and other famous provenances; many of these formed part of their stock and were for sale. There can be no doubt that Libri's and the Techeners' work provided an enormous stimulus to the study of old bookbindings. All at once, bookbindings were in the air, and began being more widely written about."
