cont. mottled calf (rubbed, sm. def. at fore-edge margin of lower cover), richly gilt spine on 5 raised bands, red polished edges, marbl. endpapers, silk marker, [6]-459-[3] pp. (paper age-toned, some minor staining). Excellent copy. 2nd ed. (1st 1707) of an important study of conic sections by the French mathematician L'Hospital (1661-1704), marquis de Sainte-Mesme, pupil of Bernoulli, correspondent of Leibniz. Ill. with 33 folding engravings. Old libr. ticket. Stamped initials "D.L.P." on title.
