2 parts in 1 vol., 4to, cont. calf (rubbed, corners sl. def.), gilt orn. spine on 5 raised bands (rubbed, some def. at head, joints rubbed, starting to split), red edges, xxii-394, [2]-84-cvii-[1] pp. (minor spotting and browning). Inside good copy. 2nd edition (1st 1742, 33 pl.) of an illustrated inventory and classification of shells in 18th c. France by Dezallier d'Argenville (1680-1765). Second part contains a description of the animals that inhabited the shells entitled "Zoomorphose". Engr. ills (complete) : frontisp. by Chedel after Boucher and 41 full-page plates (numb. 1-29, 3, 9) including 3 full-page plates signed by J.J. Flipart, depicting shells. Each pl. at the expenses of a Duke, a landgrave, i.a. duc de Sully, Bonnier de Lamosson, comte de Meurcé, baron de Wind, etc. Title printed in red & black. Woodcut ornament on title.
