Description
4to, old sheep (worn, edges stained), spine on 3 raised bands (repairs), [6]-ccliii ff. (minor soiling or staining). Good copy. Very rare important humanist ed. of Juvenal by the Flemish humanist printer in Paris J. Badius (1461-1535), including the commentary by the Italian humanist Mancinelli (1452-1502). This is a unique example of an ed. commissioned from Badius (a native of Ghent!) by 3 Flemish booksellers active in Ghent. Printed in larger (text) and smaller (commentary) gothic type. Cont. ownership entries and scribbling on title and last page, i.a. “Gabriel Simerel dem(euran)t a Monstier la celle pres de Troyes” (from the Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Montier-la-Celle?, founded 660); another entry by a “Maistre Jacques ? a Saint Florentin” (Champagne). A few reader’s marks.
