folio, cont. blindst. half pigskin over wood (clasps and 1 catch gone), spine on 5 raised bands (sm. def. at edges and tail), [22]-787-[1] pp. (a few sm. stains). Very good copy. 1st ed. of Vives’ masterpiece, a fundamental humanist commentary on Augustine’s magnum opus. Elaborate woodcut borders by Hans Holbein on aa1r (Froben’s preface), aa2r (Vives’ dedication), a1r (beginning of text), Tt8v (surrounding printer’s mark). Occ. cont. Latin marginal ms. notes and reader’s marks. Ecclesiastic ownership entries.
