Very good copy. Extr. rare complete set of all four parts of this satyrical novel by J. Barclay (1582-1621), a Scottish author living in France. It is dedicated i.a. to James I of England (Pt. I) and Robert Cecil (Pt. II). The text attacks the Jesuits, the medical profession, and contemporary scholarship. The "Apologia" (1st 1611) is a reply to Jesuit attacks. The "Icon animorum" is a description of the character and manners of the European nations. Woodcut on 1st title.
