4to, cont. vellum, flat spine titled in ink, [16]-467 (= 469)-[3] pp. (paper age-toned, occ. tiny wormtracks). Good copy. Very rare 2nd ed. (1st 1645) of the 1st French trsl. of "De sapientia" (1544) by the Renaissance scientist Cardano (1501-1576). It is a philosophical treatiese on man, nature, and God, as well as one of the earliest works on social anthropology. Woodcut orn. on title. Old ownership entry on title crossed out.
