3 vols, 12mo, cont. mottled sheep (rubbed), gilt spines on 5 raised bands, marbl. edges, marbl. endpapers, cxij-[12]-612, [4]-662-21-[1], [4]-768 pp. (clear dampstain in lower half of first 2 vols, some minor thumbing). Good copy.   2nd ed. (1st 1736), with very extensive indexes, of a major work by the French economist of the Physiocratic school Quesnay (1694-1774), an important contribution to new ideas on property and the "droit naturel". Ill. with an engr. front. “It is generally agreed that Quesnay’s physiological studies formed the basis for his later economic studies, showing the ulterior development of his practical philosophy or, which is the same for Quesnay, of his economic philosophy. The "Essai physique" is (...) an examination of the necessary scientific basis. With great honesty he exerts himself to assess the results of contemporary knowledge in the field of chemistry, physiology and the mental sciences” (Gerits).
