Description
folio, cont. calf (rubbed), gilt spine on 6 raised bands, [8]-331-[1] pp. (paper age-toned). Very good copy. Very rare early biography of the Jesuit hero Aloysius Gonzaga (1568-1591), beatified in 1605. It was apparently intended to support his canonization, which eventually followed in 1726. C. Janninck (1650-1723) was a Dutch Jesuit and Bollandist, and was thus eminently qualified to collect the data needed in this case. Portrait on title by H. Cause. Printed in 2 cols. Cont. presentation inscription on title crossed out. Old name on front endpaper "Corn: Geerts". Stamp in blank title margin removed.
